Mission Education
The charge of Agricenter International is to provide education and awareness in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences to the public.
Agricenter now offers to schools and teachers many great programs within their curricula to demonstrate the importance of agriculture and its relationship to the environment.
Our programs can be scheduled at Agricenter. The agricultural topics cover everything from plants to animals; from the basics to the effects that our environment has on them (In 4th, 5th and 6th grade science curriculum standard 2.0, 3.0, and 5.0). In environmental science, programs are available on water quality, the water cycle, ecosystems, and much more (In 4th, 5th and 6th grade science curriculum standard 5.0, 8.0, and 10.0).
One demonstration is “Freddie the Fish,” whose story tells about water pollution and the adaptation of animals to changing environments. Another course, called “Garbage Pizza,” illustrates solid waste and recycling on a pizza crust. The “H2Olympics” deals with the adhesive and cohesive properties of water. "Ag Jeopardy" has a focus on agriculture and horticulture. These are just a few exciting and educational programs that are available at Agricenter.
In spring, summer, and fall, we have programs on the farm demonstrating a variety of crops and how they grow in an environment and different ecosystems. Students who attend field trips at Agricenter will have the opportunity to visit our working farm and learn about various types of agriculture and wildlife.
Programming can be tailored to assist teachers with specific areas of their curriculum. For details on additional educational opportunities at Agricenter, please call Tim Roberts at tim.roberts@utk.edu or at (901)757-7777, extension 7109.
It is our goal that Agricenter be utilized as an outdoor classroom for Memphis and the Metropolitan Area. .
