Backyard STEM is a program developed by UT Knoxville and the UT Extension to teach educators environmental science that might be utilized in their classroom.
Instructors for the day:
Dr. Jennifer DeBruyn, UT Knoxville, who specializes in Microbial ecology. Her current research project areas are Biodegradation of plastics, decomposition of carcasses/cadavers, N cycling in terrestrial; and aquatic environments and insect mircrobiomes.
Dr. Andrea Ludwig, UT Knoxville, who specializes in Watershed science and management. Her responsibilities are Stormwater management, Stream and Wetland Restoration and Non-Point Source Pollutant Fate and Transport. She is a ecological engineer who works in areas of stream restoration and watershed management.
Backyard STEM is an educational opportunity for teachers to fill their tool box with hands-on science lessons that can enrich classroom presentations. Lunch will be provided. Maximum 30 registrants.
