Jr. High and Senior High AudiencesForest Stand Evaluation(Jr. High School/High School) The students go into the forest to evaluate a tree population. The students are split into several groups and create their own company name. They learn how to measure a tree and how to look at the tree like a Timber buyer. Each group measures the trees and calculates the values of timber on a 1/16th acre. They will continue to calculate the value of an acre and a 40 acre section. Each group will turn in a sealed bid for the 40 acre tract of timber for their company to purchase. At the conclusion of this experience, we will discuss the different careers in Forestry and how this experience would benefit in Forestry careers. |
