Educational
Progressive Agriculture Safety Day for Urban Youth
In 2006, 339 Safety Days were held in 35 states, 5 Canadian Providences, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa for approximately 56,500 participates. Memphis is privileged to host two Safety Days each year (one in the spring and one in the fall). This is a program for 4th and 5th graders. Each year two schools are invited to bring their students to our Progressive Agriculture Safety Day.
The students and teachers are presented with an official Safety Day t-shirt. The students learn about different safety topics. Students will learn about warning signs that animal can show during the Animal Safety presentation. The station, Chemical Look-A-Likes, aids students to witness how deceiving chemicals can be hazardous to our health. Students take the Look-A-Like challenge to see if they can identify the non-poisonous item. They also learn about Bicycle Safety and see a demonstration of why it is important to wear a helmet. The students enjoy lunch and at the conclusion of the program are presented with a goodie bag to take home. The bag has items about safety, a pencil, sticker, and many other goodies.
Our sponsors include Agricenter, Monsanto, and the Shelby County Farm Bureau. A complete list of sponsors can be found on our Sponsor Page.
