Progressive Agriculture Safety Day for Urban Youth
In 2006, 339 Safety Days were held in 35 states, 5 Canadian Provinces, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa for approximately 56,500 participants. Memphis is privileged to host two Safety Days each year (one in the spring and one in the fall). This is a program for 4th and 5th graders. Each year two schools are invited to bring their students to our Progressive Agriculture Safety Day.
The students and teachers are presented with an official Safety Day T-shirt. The students learn about different safety topics. Students will learn about warning signs that animals can show during the Animal Safety presentation. The station Chemical Look-A-Likes aids students in witnessing how deceiving chemicals can be hazardous to our health. Students take the Look-A-Like challenge to see if they can identify the non-poisonous item. They also learn about Bicycle Safety and see a demonstration of why it is important to wear a helmet. The students enjoy lunch and at the conclusion of the program are presented with a goody bag to take home.
Our sponsors include Agricenter, Monsanto, and the Shelby County Farm Bureau. A complete list of sponsors can be found on our Sponsor Page.
