Agricenter Awarded Two Grants
TVA InvestPrep & Community Enhancement Grants
MEMPHIS, TN --- On Monday, the Shelby County Commission voted to award a $50,000 Community Enhancement Grant to Agricenter International to match the TVA InvestPrep Grant that Agricenter received earlier this month for an Infrastructure and Site Development Plan. Agricenter gives a special thanks to Chairman Mark Billingsley and grant contributors Commissioners David Bradford, Brandon Morrison, Michael Whaley, Amber Mills, Mick Wright, Willie Brooks Jr., and Van Turner.
Agricenter’s recently completed Strategic Business Plan and Master Plan identified an Innovation District with a strategically located 40-acre site to create new AgTech jobs and capital investment. The Innovation District site requires new infrastructure, namely access, sewer and utilities to recruit new companies.
Memphis & Shelby County Regional Economic Alliance has placed AgTech in the top six industry clusters in this region and the top three for opportunity for strong growth within the next ten years. Recently, TVA awarded Agricenter an InvestPrep Grant for its Innovation District Infrastructure and Site Development Plan with a requirement to match the funds with a local component. Agricenter’s development of its research park, the Innovation District, make it the ideal location as a catalyst for the Mid-South’s AgTech innovation cluster.
John Butler, President of Agricenter International stated, “We are overwhelmed by the support of the Shelby County Commission and are pleased to receive this Community Enhancement Grant. We look forward to completing the infrastructure and site development plan for the Innovation District on our campus.”
Agricenter International, a 1,000-acre farm, is a non-profit dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of agriculture. It has a $524 million annual economic impact on the region, hosts over 1.3 million visitors annually, and educates 10,000 students a year.
